Joaquín Peñalver-Andrés

Joaquín Peñalver-Andrés holds a BSc and MSc in Industrial Engineering (major in Electronics and Control) from University of Vigo (UVigo, Spain). In 2014, he conducted his master thesis at the Institute of Information-Oriented Control at Technical University München (TUM, Germany) in the field of Cooperative Robotics. In 2015, he was granted a full scholarship (Fundación Barrié) to pursue a MSc in Biomedical Engineering at Technical University Delft (TU Delft, The Netherlands). His first contact with rehabilitation robotics was a founding member of Project MARCH, a student team developing a lower limb exoskeleton for spinal cord-injured patients, where he developed control algorithms and a user interface. In 2016, he conducted his master thesis at the Sensory-Motor Systems Lab at ETH Zürich (ETHZ, Switzerland) in the field of upper-limb rehabilitation robotics with the ARMin robotic device. In 2017, Joaquín joined Prof. Dr. Ing. Laura Marchal-Crespo's team in the Motor Learning and Neurorehabilitation Lab within the ARTORG Center for Biomedical Engineering Research (University of Bern, Switzerland) to pursue a PhD in Neuroscience (BENEFRI Neuroscience). Joaquín investigates the cognitive and motor neural correlates of motor learning using electroencephalography (EEG). Since February 2021, Joaquín also collaborates with the Functional Neurological Disorders Group led by Prof. Dr. med. Selma Aybek (Dept. of Neurology, University Hospital, Inselspital Bern, Switzerland).

Research interests: Cognitive and motor neuroscience, Neuroimaging, Data Science, Neurorehabilitation.
